Just call him by his name please.

When you hold your perfect baby you never think of all the odd things these little ocd clones high on sugar may do.

My youngest, who is 4 was in dire need of a haircut.  I splurged, mostly from sheer exhaustion and got the boys real hair cuts.  So we are at the hair cut chain and my 4 year old smiles and gets on the chair.  Before I can warn her she says, "Hey little dude".  He glares at her and says, "MY NAME IS SAWYER."  I laugh trying my best to ease the tension and said he only likes to be called his name.  Please call him Sawyer."  She laughed.  Why oh why do people not believe me.  He is a great kid but hates any pet names.  So she says, "Come on cutie."  Why.  I think she did this on purpose to show me that I didn't use pet names correctly.  He retorted, "I'm just Sawyer.  Hurry up and cut my hair already."  I threw the kindle in his hands to distract him from the odd hair stylist who felt it was her goal in life to fix my son to love being called names that did not belong to him.  They continued to argue like an old married couple until he said, "Can we be done already lady"  She said, "Fine I am totally over this"  She put down her scissors and walked away.

He sat still.  He did not cry.  He just didn't want to be anyone's dude, baby or cutie pie.  She needed to get over herself if a four year old can stress her out that badly.  I tipped her nicely even though she didn't quite finish or take the cape off or style his hair.  I figures it was her due for pain and suffering.  Geez just listen to the parents and make life easier for herself.

For the record,  I hate nicknames as well.  Call me my name or just don't call me.

At least she had a good story to tell.
